    ABOUT THIS AIRCRAFT
The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy bomber designed and built during the Second World War. The Lancaster is one of the most iconic and legendary aircraft of World War Two, having seen extensive combat in the European theatre against Axis Forces. Today just 17 Lancasters exist, with just two airworthy examples.
    Our Aircraft’s Story
Our Avro Lancaster; KB-882 has the distinction of being one of the few remaining Lancasters to have seen combat in Europe during World War Two. KB-882 was built by Victory Aircraft in late 1944 and was introduced into service in early 1945. Before the end of hostilities in Europe, KB-882 flew eleven bombing missions. On her missions, KB-882 targeted factories, cities, and mines. On one such mission, while returning home after delivering her payload, KB-882 had a close encounter with a German night fighter. But thanks to the Lancasters defensive turrets, the German aircraft was deterred from further confronting the bomber. Post-war, upon KB-882s' return to Canada she was to join the "Tiger Force"; a squadron that would fight in Japan. However, the war in the Pacific soon drew to a close, and KB-882 entered temporary storage. The escalation of the Cold War soon gave Canadian Lancasters a new role. KB-882 was converted to an MX AR and flew reconnaissance missions up until her retirement in 1964. Today KB-882 is being restored for static display by the talented team at the National Air Force Museum of Canada. Click here to visit the museums website.
