Introducing the latest addition to the Plane Chains hangar: the legendary CF-104 Starfighter!
These new Plane Chains are crafted from the tip tank stabilizer of RCAF CF-104 serial 104883. A Cold War icon, this aircraft once flew NATO missions out of West Germany and was capable of speeds over Mach 2.
Each tag measures 3.6cm x 8.8cm and features the original paint, wear, and history of the aircraft—laser engraved with its details.
ABOUT THIS AIRCRAFT
The CF-104 Starfighter was Canada’s Cold War rocket—an ultra-fast, razor-thin interceptor capable of flying at over Mach 2. Built under license by Canadair and powered by Canadian-made Orenda J79 engines, the CF-104 was adapted from the Lockheed F-104 for strike and reconnaissance roles within NATO. For over two decades, it served as the RCAF’s primary jet in Europe, symbolizing Canadian engineering, strength, and commitment on the world stage.
Our Aircraft’s Story
CF-104 104883 was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1962 and assigned to NATO operations in West Germany. Throughout its Cold War service, it flew with 422 Squadron and later 1 Canadian Air Group, operating from bases like Baden–Soellingen and Lahr. In the 1980s, 104883 was withdrawn from service as Canada transitioned to the CF-18. Before its export to a NATO ally, its tip tanks were removed and retained in Canada—leaving behind a lasting relic of a legendary fighter.
